What Is Animal Teaching?

"Erin is not a dog sitter, she's a dog transformer" - Andrena

In a world full of specific trainings, methodologies and ideologies about what's best for our animal companions, I've come to learn that
they are the ones that can teach us best. When we take the time to be still, we can really listen to them and feel what they need far beyond what our intellect may be telling us.

"Lots of people talk to animals.... Not very many listen, though.... That's the problem"  ~ Benjamin Hoff, The Tao of Pooh

Animals can teach us to:

  • Listen to them carefully to understand their needs
  • Trust our inner guidance system, especially in crisis
  • Recognize our own emotional patterns so that we can heal them
  • Be the strong, yet loving leader they are needing
  • Show them the respect they deserve
  • Give our busy minds a break and be still
  • Have fun, laugh, dance & play

"To the mind that is still, the whole universe surrenders"  ~ Lao Tzu

In quiet inner stillness, we are all able to connect with the web of life and communicate with life all around us, including our animal companions. By relaxing our busy minds, we are able to feel others beyond the day-to-day realm of experience we spend most of our time in. This beautiful clip from Wayne Dyer's movie, 'The Shift' comes to mind as an illustration of this connectedness.

We can all step into a relational way of being with animals that embraces this incredible connection, trust, and strong emotional leadership that ensures safety and provides deep calm & peace.

There are many excellent resources available from those who have really embraced this connection with the animals, but at the end of the day, books could not have taught me the depth of what the animals have first-hand.

The animals we share our lives with respond remarkably well to being respected and their desire is simply to live a happy healthy life with us. They are incredible teachers of this.

When you go on vacation, I come and stay in your home with your loved one. Our time together allows me to feel what they are needing to move to a place of greater balance, which may include:

  • increased physical or mental activity
  • energy healing & massage
  • deeper emotional support
  • more or less structure in their day
  • redefining boundaries
  • dietary adjustments
  • a different way of leadership
  • changes in their environment
  • more social interaction with other dogs

So it is my mission to connect deeply with each animal I work with, allow them to open up and show me what is needed to move towards this greater state of well-being & balance for everyone involved. After all, we all heal together!
